When I first understood the concept that I am not my thoughts my mind was blown! I realized that there is someone else who thinks and I am the presence that is the observer. Whereas, if I identify with my thoughts then, I become the experiencer of my thoughts.
Without the label of good or bad, a thought is just a thought. But when we think of a thought over and over again it becomes our perception: the lens through which we see ourselves and the world.
Thinking off my thoughts as things that are a part of my environment and not a part of me really helped me to understand if I want to identify with what I am thinking. I share how you can begin to understand your unwanted thoughts in this video:
